What is knitted mesh？

Knitted wire mesh is a metal strand or wire which is knitted together to create a mesh-like structure. A mesh is best described as a structure similar to that of a web or net since it has many attached or woven strands. Metal meshes can be made using different techniques including weaving, knitting, welding, expanding, electroforming etc.
Knitted wire mesh is most commonly made by using one of these two techniques: knitting or weaving. Knitted mesh is made using a knitting process similar to domestic knitting machines but on a larger scale. The end product is a connecting loop of wire and fibres. Woven wire mesh is made as a cloth with wire threads woven at different angles. These two use techniques use different technologies for production and therefore produce materials with different structures and properties.
Knitted wire mesh is known for a long sock-like structure due to interlocking loops that move relative to each other. The structure ensures more flexibility since movement doesn’t result in distorting of the mesh structure. The woven mesh’ structure is woven closer together resulting in closer connection and therefore doesn’t provide room for distorting.
